With a wider footprint, the A23 allows for a more aerodynamic rim/tire combination. The tire profile mimics the characteristics of a tubular, gaining increased control and lower rolling resistance without the inconvenience of tubular glue or the dangers of irreparable roadside mechanicals. Light in weight and tubeless-compatible, the A23 is an extremely versatile rim with a classic look.
The A23 O/C rim is the off center version of the popular A23. The offset is 3.5mm, and the off center design allows for dramatically improved spoke tension on a dished rear wheel.
Tight tolerances require the use of a low profile rim tape like Velotape or Stan's Tubeless tape to avoid tire installation issues, even when using clincher tires. Veloplugs are not recommended on A23 or A23 OC rims.
Rim Size: 650B
Tire Interface: Clincher / Tubeless
Valve: Presta 32 - 40mm
Bead Seat Diameter (BSD): 584
Effective Rim Diameter (ERD): 560
584/650B rims and tires are the same size as the newer 27.5" designation.
650B usually refers to older French touring and tandem bikes, some Rivendell models, and the rims and tires used to convert a 700c bike to the smaller 584/650B diameter.
Wider rims and knobby tires are also offered in the 584 mm diameter, and marketed as "27.5" tires, the same way wide, knobby 622mm tires are marketed as "29ers". "27.5" tires are useful for off-road riders who need a smaller bicycle than is possible with "29ers" but can ride a larger one than with traditional 559/26" MTB tires. The marketing concept is that "27.5" is halfway between 26" and 29".
